The TUSK 2 (Tank Urban Survival Kit 2) is an upgrade package developed for the M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank to enhance its effectiveness in urban warfare. Building on lessons learned from operations in Iraq during the early 2000s, the original TUSK was introduced to improve crew protection and situational awareness in close-quarters combat. As threats evolved, TUSK 2 emerged as a refined variant, offering improved armour, upgraded reactive tiles, enhanced thermal sights, and better infantry-tank coordination systems. It included additional remote weapon station improvements and stronger protection for the tank commander and loader. The TUSK programmes ensured that the Abrams remained highly capable in dense urban environments, where ambushes and improvised explosive devices posed significant risks.
